You may be aware that the Government is currently planning to upload all medical records to a national computer database. At this practice, we have severe reservations about the confidentiality of medical records uploaded to this system. Our worries have been compounded by recent well-publicised leaks of personal information supposedly in the care of Government Authorities. We are also concerned that our patients are not currently asked their consent to opt into the system. We believe this is unethical. Accordingly we will not be uploading your medical records to the "National Spine". Your records here at the practice will be annotated with the code "93C3 - refused consent for upload to national shared electronic record" and "93C1 - refused consent for upload to local electronic record" These codes will stay in place until we are reassured about the security of the system. We do not want your personal details to fall into the wrong hands. Should you wish your record to be uploaded to the National Spine, please let the Practice Manager know and she will arrange this.
